Rangers sign Stubbs, option Claudio

The Texas Rangers have signed free-agent outfielder Drew Stubbs to a Major League contract, optioning left-handed pitcher Alex Claudio to Triple-A Round Rock. Additionally, the team has placed outfielder Josh Hamilton on the 60-day disabled list to make room for Stubbs on the 40-man roster.

Yanks confident Ellsbury will avoid DL stint

The Yankees still hope Jacoby Ellsbury will avoid the disabled list, manager Joe Girardi said on Saturday. The center fielder is officially day to day after straining his right hip muscle during the first inning of Friday’s 3-2 win during the series opener against the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium, although he is likely to miss at least the remainder of the series.
