With Young nursing tight quad, Castillo in left

Already thin in left field minus Brock Holt (concussion) and Blake Swihart (severely sprained left ankle), the Red Sox didn’t have Chris Young for Thursday night’s 5-1 loss to the Orioles due to a tight right quad. The development gave Rusney Castillo a chance to start for just the second time this season.

Two close: Lewis again denied history by A’s

Rangers pitcher Colby Lewis couldn’t hide his disappointment afterward, and neither could his teammates. The Rangers were feeling good after a 5-1 victory over the Athletics on Thursday, and Lewis’ complete game was a huge boost to their weary bullpen. But everybody wanted the perfect game, or at least the no-hitter — especially Lewis.
