Giants stung by Rockies’ 3-run, 9th-inning rally

The Rockies stormed back in the ninth inning to win on Cristhian Adames’ pinch-hit walk-off double to cap a 6-5 win over the Giants at Coors Field on Wednesday. With the Cardinals’ loss, the Giants’ remained a half-game ahead of them for the top National League Wild Card spot, while the Mets’ victory also put them a half-game back of San Francisco.

White Sox bat around in 8th, rally past Tigers

Avisail Garcia came back to hurt his old team, as his single to center with one out in the eighth scored pinch-runner J.B. Shuck with the deciding run in the White Sox 7-4 victory over the Tigers on Wednesday afternoon at U.S. Cellular Field. It was an especially tough loss for the Tigers, who had a one-run advantage entering the White Sox four-run eighth and could have forged a tie for the American League’s second Wild Card spot with Baltimore prior to a three-game series between the two clubs this weekend in Detroit.

Buchholz, HRs help Red Sox sink Padres

Jackie Bradley Jr. and Chris Young hit back-to-back home run in the fourth inning and Clay Buchholz allowed one run over 6 2/3 innings Tuesday as the Red Sox topped the Padres. Ryan Schimpf hit a home run for the Padres, his 17th, but pitcher Paul Clemens didn’t make it out of the fifth inning.
