Giants win in 12th inning to keep Wild Card edge

Pinch-hitter Kelby Tomlinson’s single broke a 12th-inning tie Friday night and enabled the San Francisco Giants to outlast the Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-6. The outcome kept the Giants a half-game ahead of the Mets for the National League’s first Wild Card spot. St. Louis trails the Giants by a game. San Francisco stands four games behind the first-place Dodgers in the NL West.

Yu slides back into form

After a shaky start against Houston five days earlier, Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish made some mechanical adjustments in order to better establish his most effective out pitch. The result was three hits, one earned run and nine strikeouts in the Rangers’ 2-1 win over the Angels on Friday night at Angel Stadium.
