Smash and grab: Another highlight for Buxton

The outfield walls at Target Field have gotten pummeled on quite a few occasions by Twins center fielder Byron Buxton during his short tenure with Minnesota over the course of several highlight-reel leaping, wall-smashing catches. Those poor walls got another faceful of Buxton in the 10th inning of Minnesota’s 3-2 loss to the Rangers on Friday evening.

V-Mart hits catwalk, does a little turn, homers again

Victor Martinez shook his head after he hit the catwalk at the back of Tropicana Field in his third at-bat of Friday’s 10-2 Tigers win over the Rays. He got too far in front of ex-teammate Drew Smyly’s offering, and he ended up striking out on the cutter. An inning later, he switched sides of the plate against Danny Farquhar and knew he got all of a pitch. But he couldn’t figure out why he didn’t see the ball go out.

Fulmer’s 10-K gem, V-Mart’s HRs lead Tigers’ rout

Six weeks after Michael Fulmer jumped the learning curve with seven dominant innings against the Rays, the Tigers’ rookie right-hander did it again at Tropicana Field. His seven shutout innings on two hits with 10 strikeouts, along with Victor Martinez’s second two-homer game this week, powered Detroit to its fourth straight victory in a 10-2 runaway over the Rays on Friday night.
