Oh my, O’Malley! 3-run HR caps Seattle rally

On a night they retired Ken Griffey Jr.’s No. 24, utility infielder Shawn O’Malley joked before the game about how he was only 628 career homers behind the Mariners all-time great. Then O’Malley went about narrowing the gap, launching a three-run blast in the seventh inning to lift Seattle to an 8-6 victory over the Angels in front of Saturday’s sellout crowd of 45,618.

Big 4th, game-ending out at plate propel Tigers

Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Miguel Cabrera hit two-run singles in a five-run fourth inning before the Tigers held on late for their 10th win in 11 games with a 6-5 victory over the Mets on Saturday night at Comerica Park. The Mets sent the potential tying run around third base with three consecutive two-out singles in the ninth off Tigers closer Francisco Rodriguez, but J.D. Martinez threw out Jay Bruce at the plate for the final out of the game.

The Yankees announced on Saturday night that they will hold a news conference with designated hitter Alex Rodriguez at Yankee Stadium, prior to today’s 1:05 p.m. ET series finale against the Indians. The news conference, which will begin at 11 a.m. and stream live on MLB.com, will also include general manager Brian Cashman and manager Joe Girardi.
