Stats of the Day: Smyly’s start makes Rays happy

The Rays defeated the Red Sox, 3-0, in 10 innings at Fenway Park. Tampa Bay starter Drew Smyly set the tone by working eight innings of one-hit, 11-strikeout ball, becoming just the fourth left-hander since 1913 to face the Red Sox at Fenway and come away with a line that included no runs and at least 11 strikeouts, and the first since Randy Johnson in 1992.
