The Pirates placed 2013 National League Most Valuable Player Andrew McCutchen on the 15-day DL on Monday, a little more than a week after he sustained an avulsion fracture in the 11th rib on his left side. The move is retroactive to Aug. 4. Right-hander Casey Sadler was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take McCutchen’s place on the 25-man roster.
