The Pirates put themselves in position for the rarest of baseball feats of dominance when they held off the Cardinals on Wednesday night, 5-4, for the fourth time in three nights. Thus, on Thursday night they will go for their first five-game sweep since Sept. 12-15, 1996, in San Francisco.
