McCann replaces Freeman in All-Star Game

Just three days after being voted into the All-Star Game by a record number of fans, Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman sustained a jammed thumb on the first play of the game in Saturday’s 5-2 win over Cincinnati that will keep him off the field in Tuesday’s Midsummer Classic. But Braves catcher Brian McCann received a nice surprise late Sunday afternoon when Major League Baseball announced he would replace Freeman on this year’s National League All-Star roster.
