On the heels of South Korean reliever Seung Hwan Oh signing with the Cardinals, MLB.com began an examination of the organization’s decade-long journey back into the Asian market. Reds run ‘pitching summit’ to prepare prospects

No matter who makes up the Reds’ pitching staff this season, it will be comprised of many young pitchers with high ceilings and unfinished development. Reds manager Bryan Price, his pitching coaches and the front office wanted the team’s young pitchers to be as prepared as possible heading into 2016, so for a few days in mid-January, the club assembled several of its prospects at the team complex in Goodyear, Ariz., for what was called a “pitching summit.”

Pitching prospects with best combo of tools

Some pitchers get by with just one plus pitch. They get to the big leagues with an upper-90s fastball or a hammer curve. Those with a combination of the two have the chance to be extremely successful in some role at the highest level. It should come as no surprise, then, that Lucas Giolito of the Nationals and Julio Urias of the Dodgers have the best combination of pitching tools among all pitching prospects.
