The Rays will look to play spoiler over the final month of the season, and they certainly lived up to that billing in their series opener vs. Toronto. Tampa Bay quickly reminded the Blue Jays that they have never fared too well in the Sunshine State, and even a last-place team should not be overlooked. Harper, Cole lead Nats over Mets in opener

Braves score 8 unanswered to defeat Phillies

Freddie Freeman and Matt Kemp came up big Friday night in an 8-4 victory over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. They went a combined 5-for-8 with five RBIs, which included Kemp’s three-run home run in the fifth inning to tie the game and a couple of clutch hits in the ninth against Phillies closer Jeanmar Gomez to give the Braves the lead for good.

Carrasco K’s 11, Indians cruise past Marlins

The Indians’ offense struck early to back Carlos Carrasco’s 11-strikeout gem in a 6-2 win over the Marlins in Friday night’s series opener at Progressive Field. The Tribe maintained its 4 1/2-game lead in the American League Central, while Miami, which has lost six of its last seven games, remained three games back of the second National League Wild Card spot.
