Dropped to sixth in the batting order by manager Joe Girardi, Rodriguez snapped an 0-for-19 skid in his first plate appearance in Sunday’s 4-3 win over the Mariners, slugging the first pitch he saw from starter Hisashi Iwakuma for a two-run homer to left field.

Masahiro Tanaka struck out six over seven solid innings, outpitching Hisashi Iwakuma to help the Yankees defeat the Mariners, 4-3, on Sunday at Yankee Stadium in the first Major League meeting between a pair of former Japanese teammates.

Tony Noriega, a high school sophomore battling cancer, will have a wish granted and attend this year’s All-Star Game in San Diego. Major League Baseball, the Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies (Astros), the Make-A-Wish foundation and Business Street Online have teamed up to make Noriega’s wish a reality.

Rockies shortstop Trevor Story, who entered Sunday leading the Majors in home runs and strikeouts, does not look like an overmatched rookie in need of bench time.
