A-Rod homers in likely final game at Trenton

Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez went 1-for-2 with a mammoth two-run home run against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at ARM & HAMMER Park on Wednesday night in the second game of his rehab stint with Double-A Trenton. Rodriguez is expected to be activated from the disabled list for the Yankees’ 4:05 p.m. ET series finale against the Blue Jays on Thursday.

Snapping personal drought, Martin sees positives

Russell Martin had been waiting a very, very long time for this. Forty-one games, to be exact. Martin’s homerless drought finally came to an end at 124 at-bats on Wednesday night when he went deep twice in Toronto’s 8-4 victory over the Yankees. It was the second-longest stretch without a home run to start a season in Martin’s career and one that he’ll want to put in his rearview mirror as quickly as possible.

Pedroia, Bogaerts, Hanigan exit game early

The Red Sox lost both members of their double-play combination during Wednesday night’s 10-3 win over the Rockies. But manager John Farrell is confident second baseman Dustin Pedroia (right hamstring tightness) and shortstop Xander Bogaerts (sore right thumb) will both be back for Thursday’s series finale.

Giants win 5th straight on walk-off 1B in 10th

The San Francisco Giants, baseball’s hottest team with 13 wins in their past 14 games, maintained their dominance of the San Diego Padres as Brandon Crawford drilled a two-out, walk-off single to give the National League West leaders a 4-3 victory Wednesday and a sweep of the three-game series. The Giants have won all nine games between the two clubs this season, marking their first nine-game winning streak against the Padres in franchise history.

Astros’ Gomez using rehab stint to refresh

He was smiling with his teammates, bouncing around the field and looked refreshed. Simply put, Carlos Gomez was being Carlos Gomez again. Prior to the second game of his Minor League rehab stint at Double-A Corpus Christi on Wednesday night, Gomez said the rib cage injury that put him on the disabled list might have come at a good time.
