Marlins mulling 10-year, $300M deal for Stanton

The Marlins have made locking up Giancarlo Stanton their top offseason priority, and they’re willing to make a record-breaking offer to prove it. Stanton, runner-up for National League MVP, and the Marlins have been discussing a contract extension with a framework of 10 years and $300 million, MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro has confirmed.

Gordon selected to flip switch on KC’s Plaza lights

The World Series celebration continues and this time it’ll light up Kansas City’s famous Country Club Plaza with the traditional holiday lights.Kansas City Power & Light has selected Royals left fielder Alex Gordon to flip the switch that will turn on the thousands of colorful lights in the 85th Plaza lighting ceremony. He’ll be assisted by his family and general manager Dayton Moore and his family.

V-Mart runner-up for AL MVP as voters don’t dismiss DH

For the first time since 2010, the American League Most Valuable Player Award winner is not a Detroit Tiger. Victor Martinez came about as close as any designated hitter ever has. While Angels center fielder Mike Trout finally beat out a Detroiter for AL MVP honors, winning the vote unanimously, Martinez finished as the runner-up. The DH received 16 of the 30 second-place votes, twice as many as third-place finisher Michael Brantley of the Indians.

Desmond turned down 7-year deal before 2014

Shortstop Ian Desmond turned down a seven-year, $107 million contract from the Nationals prior to Spring Training earlier this year, a baseball source has confirmed. The Washington Post was first to report the offer. Desmond and the Nationals then agreed upon a two-year, $17.5 million deal to complete his arbitration years.
