The deal, which was not confirmed by the club because Santana has to undergo a physical, has a vesting option for a fifth year worth $14 million, which includes a $1 million buyout.

By adding slugging outfielder Yoenis Cespedes for right-hander Rick Porcello on Thursday morning, then acquiring Alfredo Simon from the Reds for Eugenio Suarez and Jonathon Crawford, the Tigers’ parting shot at this year’s Meetings answered the past few days of deals by the rest of the American League Central.
