Brewers rattle Snakes with quartet of homers

The Brewers smacked four homers as they beat the D-backs, 7-2, on Monday night in the opener of a four-game series at Miller Park. Scooter Gennett, Jonathan Villar, Martin Maldonado and Andy Wilkins each homered, with Maldonado’s being the biggest blow — a three-run shot in the sixth that gave Milwaukee a 6-2 lead.

Kimbrel could return during West Coast trip

Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel threw from the main mound at Fenway Park on Monday, marking his first side session since undergoing left knee surgery July 9. The righty has made such encouraging progress that there’s a chance he could be activated during the upcoming West Coast trip that starts in Anaheim on Thursday and ends at Dodger Stadium on Aug. 7.
