Roberto Clemente’s death literally served as an awakening for Alki Steriopoulos. When the charter plane carrying the future Hall of Famer and supplies he was taking to earthquake-stricken Nicaragua crashed over the Atlantic Ocean, it helped to save Steriopoulos from a crash of his own.
